Pier Neef Trees

I suspect that many of us will have zeroed in on Pier Neef's trees. At least I did. Based on the lithograph Doringboom en Veld, I created a silk screen of the tree and printed it onto some batik fabric after several unsuccessful attempts at painting the background fabric.  The trees are machine quilted, and the small houses and trees are freehand machine stitched as well.

  1. I like the way you have taken his exact trees, but then done something completely different with them. The shading of the colours in the background works particularly well.

  2. A reference to the famously gorgeous sunsets of South Africa?

  4. What a brilliant idea using his lithographs as your inspiration - one tends to overlook this aspect of his work, and the fact you have repeated the design makes it that much more interesting. I really like your background as it does remind one, as Heather said, of our gorgeoous sunsets. A really inspired piece.

  7. So clever. Those Flat Crown trees are so evocative of the South African veldt and then to throw in the glorious sunset - oh my! Hilary

  8. Isn't it astounding how all of us who chose trees to interpret have all done them so differently ! I love the background too ,very reminiscent of African skies.
